Vince Vaughn Gets Engaged!

Vince Vaughn can now crash his own wedding. The actor (and Jennifer Aniston's ex) is engaged to girlfriend Kyla Weber, her father, Ken Weber, tells the Montreal Gazette. Vaughn, 38, and Weber, a 29-year-old Calgary real-estate agent, have maintained a low-profile relationship that included a romantic getaway to Bora Bora last September. Vaughn's rep declined to comment. Reached by PEOPLE, a woman at the Weber family's home said she could not "confirm or deny" the Gazette's report. Vaughn, the Wedding Crashers star whose relationship with Aniston ended in 2006, told Parade in January 2008 that he always tries "to keep my relationships quiet" but added that "for me, the biggest foundation always is that you can laugh with each other, that you have fun with each other, because life really is made up of all the little moments."

Car bomb kills eight in Pakistan

At least eight people, mostly police and soldiers, have been killed by a car bomb in north-west Pakistan.

Police said they died after being lured to a booby-trapped car on the outskirts of Peshawar, capital of North-West Frontier Province.
Violence in Pakistan has surged in recent months amid a wave of attacks blamed on Islamist militants.
At least five people died in two other attacks on Saturday, days after Sri Lanka's cricketers were targeted.
On 3 March, gunmen fired on a bus carrying Sri Lanka's cricket team in the eastern city of Lahore.
Seven Pakistanis, including six police officers, died in that attack, and several cricketers were injured.
There have also been regular battles with rebels elsewhere in the north-west in recent months, particularly in the Swat valley and in the tribal region of Bajaur.

Tip-off

Saturday's bombing near Peshawar occurred when police received an anonymous tip-off that there was a body in a car on a highway near the village of Badaber, local police chiefs said.
But as police examined the car it exploded. Five of the dead were police officers, two were paramilitary soldiers, and a passer-by was also killed. Five others were injured.
"Police went there. They found the white car. They also saw a body inside, but when they were pulling it out, the car bomb went off," an area police chief, Rahim Shah, told the Associated Press news agency.
He called it a "new technique".
Initial reports had suggested the car exploded after being motioned to stop at a roadblock. They also suggested it was a suicide bombing, though later reports said the bomb was detonated remotely.
There has been no claim of responsibility, but officials blamed Taleban militants.
The bombing is said to have occurred on a route between the Khyber tribal agency and city of Peshawar. The Khyber agency is a semi-autonomous tribal region of North-West Frontier Province and has long operated largely beyond the reach of Pakistani law.
The BBC's Syed Shoaib Hasan in Islamabad says the region, set in mountainous terrain close to the border with Afghanistan, is in the midst of an insurgency by Taleban militants.
He says Pakistan's security forces are battling the militants throughout the region to stop the militants from attacking Nato forces in Afghanistan.
Security forces also aim to prevent the militants providing safe havens for al-Qaeda in the border regions, he adds.
The Khyber Pass route through the region towards the Afghan frontier is a key supply route for international forces in Afghanistan, but has itself become a target for rebels and was closed by Pakistan late in 2008.
In other attacks in the region on Saturday, at least two people were killed when a vehicle carrying members of the security services hit a landmine in Darra Adam Khel, near Peshawar.
And at least three people were killed and 10 injured in an explosion at a mosque used by the militant group Ansar ul Islam in a remote part of the Khyber tribal region.

Inside Japan

Cities in Japan are often crowded during festival times, but Kyoto more so as the streets are narrow.
The famous Momiji (Maple) leaves are used for decorations in food as well as within flower arrangements.

Hanatoro is a festival in the Arashiyama district of Kyoto, whereby hundreds, if not thousands, of lanterns light the streets and bamboo forests.

In the famous Dotonbori district of Osaka, giant mechanical crabs can be seen above some restaurants, tantalizing visitors to try the local delicacies.

All throughout the summer there are many firework festivals that are free and often draw large crowds.

"Parasols like this are a common feature outside old coffee shops and restaurants in Japan.

In pictures: Child drawings of Darfur

Bakhid was eight years old when he saw his village being attacked and burned by Janjaweed forces on horse back and Sudanese forces in vehicles and tanks.
Ismael, also 15, drew a Sudanese helicopter bombing his village, torching houses and killing civilians and a donkey. He said the armed men on horseback were Janjaweed.

This picture by Mohamat shows another village attack. Next to each civilian who has been shot is the word "Morts", which means dead people in French.

Mohammed's drawing shows Janjaweed militia in two pick-up trucks using machine guns on civilians. He also shows a tank. The Sudanese government has always denied using heavy artillery in Darfur.

Rights group Waging Peace collected the drawings from refugees in Chad. Abduljabbar's picture shows someone being thrown into a fire and a soldier who appears to be cutting off a man’s head.

The International Criminal Court is accepting supporting evidence of children's drawings of the alleged crimes committed in Darfur. This sketch by Abdul Maggit depicts a typical scene of destruction.

Singer Rihanna 'would testify'

Singer Rihanna would testify against her boyfriend Chris Brown if called as a witness in his assault case, her attorney has said.

Donald Etra, who represents the 21-year-old Rihanna, said she would be legally required to give evidence if issued with a subpoena.
Brown was this week charged with assault and making criminal threats after an argument with Rihanna.
She has not commented on the case or a photo of her injured, on police advice.
In court this week, Brown's victim was named only as "Robyn F". Rihanna's real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.
Brown, 19, was arrested in Los Angeles last month after a row with the singer in a parked car.
One of the charges is of assault likely to cause great bodily injury.
Mr Etra said Rihanna did not want a "no contact" order issued against Brown but that she will report any violations of an order prohibiting him from threatening, harassing or harming her.
He added Rihanna wanted the case to be over with quickly so she could get on with her life and career.

'Outpouring of support'

If convicted, the possible sentence for Brown could range from probation to more than four years in prison.
Brown was arrested on 8 February after the dispute in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles.
The alleged attack came hours before the Grammy Awards, and both stars cancelled their scheduled appearances there.
Documents unveiled during Brown's court appearance detailed how he and Rihanna got into a fight when she found a text message from another woman.
Brown is then accused of trying to force Rihanna out of their rented Lamborghini sports car and shoving her head against the passenger window and repeatedly punching her in the face.
Rihanna's spokesperson has thanked fans for the "outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time".
The case was presented by police weeks ago but prosecutors asked for more information before deciding what charges to pursue.
Brown has since said he was "sorry and saddened" by the incident and was seeking counselling.
