In pictures: Gaza six months on /Gazans face, six months after Israel's military operation

The International Committee of the Red Cross has taken these photos to show the hardships Gazans face, six months after Israel's military operation. Khalil cannot rebuild his home because the blockade of the strip means few building materials get in.
Many children in Gaza suffer from anaemia, mainly due to iron deficiency. This child, Yehia Alhassani, is 14 months old. His mother's breast milk has dried up and the family cannot afford to buy proper baby formula milk.

Meriam tries to give her children nutritious food, but can hardly afford it. Half of Gaza's population rely on the UN for their staple foods. Many families have had to sell their personal belongings, such as jewellery, to keep going.

Rajeh is an unemployed Palestinian living in southern Gaza. He is collecting fire wood for his wife to use in the house. He cannot afford to buy cooking gas even if it is available on the market.

Fetching clean water is often a child's job. The war damaged Gaza's already fragile water and sewage networks. Israel says its military action was intended to stop militants in Gaza firing rockets at Israel.
